Just by using your telephone or by visiting some sites on your computer you leave a lot of information behind. Information of yourself and of others.
Information is collected, stored, distributed and sold by companies all over the world. Are you aware of all the information you are leaving behind? And do you really have nothing to hide?
Nowadays, your information is combined with data from other services and devices. For example appliances you use at home. These are all kind of handy stuff like a robot vacuum cleaner, your TV or other home appliances. The data of these smart home devices not only show your preferences but also your day to day routine or when you are on a holiday for example. This data is very interesting for companies but also for criminals.
Do you still think you have nothing to hide? Think twice! Take for example your email account. This account gives a lot of information. Information that is is often sensitive and private. This is the kind of information you don’t want to go public. Or think about photos and other data you have on your mobile phone. This is information about yourself but also of others, like your family, friends or work. Do you really want this data to go public?
So everybody has something to hide. Do we have to go back to the time where there wasn’t any internet? No, of course not. But you can do a lot to protect your information. You just have to know what to do. So take some smart steps. For example, not using public internet. Or using a strong password. And there are more steps you can take to prevent your information to go public.
One of the ways to really know what is going on in the digital world is to read about it. But do you really take some time to read about it? Do you know where you can find this information? Knowledge is essential but it is not the holy grail. It is something you learn is a short period of time and that isn’t the best way to learn.
Another way to learn is by doing it. It is just like learning to ride a bike. You have to fall a few times to really know what biking is about. It’s the way people learn: you fall and get up again and again and again. In the end you know how to ride a bike. This is one of the best ways to learn because once you have learned you will never forget.
So, if you really want to learn, you have to make mistakes. But how do you learn about protecting your information and of others? And where can you learn in a safe way? In a cyber training arena, this is possible. It is a place where you can quickly learn from your digital mistakes. In a scenario based approach you can make mistakes and learn from them. This way you learn by experience, learning by doing. Just like riding a bike.
In this cyber training arena you can train individually, in a team or together with other teams. This way you learn to work together in stressful moments. And each person learns at his or her knowledge level. This is a unique way to learn and to work together in a sort of game room. This way you can make mistakes and really learn how to act safe and secure on the internet.
Everybody has something to hide and can do something about it. To be secure or not to be secure in cyber, that is the question! The best way to be secure is by making mistakes and learn from them. This is where Scyber helps. Our goal is to enhance security awareness and increase the ability of people involved to prevent, detect and respond to cyber threats. So everybody can be secure in cyber.
